Women's Advocacy
SAACID was originally incorporated as a women’s organisation with a mandate for women’s advocacy and women’s rights in Somalia.
This mandate has broadened over the past 17 years as persistent grinding anarchy has left Somalia without any effective governance or social services.
Advocacy issues for Somali women and girls remain at the heart of all SAACID’s programme initiatives, whether that is numeracy and literacy training, vocational training, programming in conflict resolution, or training in governance.
Strategically, SAACID wants to invest heavily in education for girls and women, and micro-credit so that women can be economically empowered.
As effective governance continues to elude Somalia, SAACID’s formal advocacy arm in governance remains limited to governance training for local leaders - including participatory leadership and budgeting.
