SAACID was originally incorporated in 1990 to improve the rights and lives of Somali women, children and the poor. When the Somali government fell in 1991, SAACID was thrust into humanitarian relief operations. SAACID has been consistantly delivering humanitarian relief since that time to the present.
In the area of emergency distributions, over the last year, SAACID has delivered the following resources:
Ongoing delivery of 9,030,000 million litres (per month) of fresh water to 55 IDP camps in the Lafole area of Afgoye District, Lower Shabelle Region
Over 20 million hot lifesaving coked meals throughout Mogadishu City (ongoing)
Dry food distributions to ~47,000 people in the Lafole area of Afgoye District, Lower Shabelle Region (suspended in December 2009, due to opposition demands to stop deliveries)
Monthly dry food distributions for ~80,000 in Jowhar District, Middle Shabelle Region (suspended in December 2009,
due to opposition demands to stop deliveries)
Monthly dry food distributuons for ~50,000 in Mahaday District, Middle Shabelle Region (suspended in December 2009,
due to opposition demands to stop deliveries)
Ongoing daily wet food distributions for 80,000 in Mogadishu City
A 1-off mosquito net distribution of 21,000 nets in Adale District of Middle Shabelle Region in October 2009 (completed)
