UN-HABITAT has been a key instrumental partner in building community leader and local governance capacity, leading to tangible results in urban development
(such as market rehabilitation). This consensus has been achieved through specialised leadership, management and conflict resolution training provided to grassroots leaders, using a UN-HABITAT training template. They have provided the basis for breakthrough initatives -
proving the peoples' capacity to work in peace - in a city fraught with
conflict.
SAACID believes strongly that Conflict Transformation and Governance go hand-in-hand, and as such, has combined these two sectors into one.
SAACID's initiatives in conflict transformation include, but are not limited to:
Demobilization, Disarmament, and Reintegration (DDR) programmes
Conflict resolution training
Governance training in leadership, management, participatory planning, participatory budgeting, and gender inclusiveness
Governance training in democracy, rule-of-law, federalism, good governance, and conflict resolution
Practical arbitration and concilitiation
Conflict mitigation centres
Public infrastructure rehabilitations
SAACID's programme implementation methodology always involves working with and empowering local community leaders - whether for DDR, conflict resolution, or development programmes.
UNDP has been a core partner in DDR (SAACID has also partnered UNESCO in demobilisation and vocational training).
